Now That We’ve Sprung Forward What Else Should We Do

There are so many things you can do now that we’ve sprung forward. From interior design to exterior landscaping, there’s so much that can be done to welcome Spring. So how do you choose what to focus on first? That’s what we’re here to help! In this article we’re going to go through a few simple things you can do to prepare your home for the new season; yes, you can scope out your house yourself! Are you ready? Let’s jump in!

Update Your Siding

There are a few things you’re going to want to look for when doing an evaluation of the condition of your siding. The first thing you’ll want to check for is if there is any bubbling and blistering on your siding. If there are raised edges or bubbles, this is a huge indication you need some fresh siding.

The second sign is finding mold, mildew or fundi on the sides of your home; this calls for immediate action. Thirdly, if there is any warping or rippling in the siding. Fourth is the most obvious one: if there’s any obvious damage. Next, if you’ve noticed an increase in your energy bill that could be attributed to your siding/insulation (if you’ve noticed this feel free to call your local contractor to come out and take a look). Sixth, if the paint is faded and deteriorating; and lastly, if you paint is peeling. Take a look at the graphic below to get a summary of these 7 signs you need to replace your siding:

Window Inspection and Cleaning

Window cleaning is a perfect spring home improvement project. Be sure to also inspect them for leaking, excessive air intake, and damage while you’re at it! Give your windows a nice clean and refresh to get the season started off fresh. This is an easy and simple way to ring in the spring!

Check the Insulation in Your Attic

You may think you don’t need to worry about insulation because the winter is almost over. But something people don’t often realize is that insulation’s primary function is not only to keep the hot air inside, but also to keep the cool air out, and vice versa! In the winter, insulation is essential. In the summer, insulation is essential. In order to effectively keep your cool air indoors and the sweltering out, insulation will most definitely be required.

If you feel that you spent too much money on heating your home this winter or had a problem with ice dams on your roof, you should consider adding insulation to your attic. This will help keep heat in your home and you will spend less money heating and cooling your home. What you can do, if you’re comfortable, is check the insulation in your attic to make sure it doesn’t need to be replaced. If there are leaks or anything of major concern, you’ll be able to see much of that from the inside of your attic.

When you’re up there, you’ll also want to check for any leaks, dripping or puddles- to make sure your roof is in good shape. Now we move on to the last answer to the question, now that we’ve sprung forward what else should we do?

Roof Repair or Replacement

We also partner with Owens Corning to provide durations shingles that last. What you’ll want to do is look at the different product offerings to see what you’re interested in. Choose a color that goes with your siding and the design of your house. There’s tons to choose from!

When doing a general roof inspection from the ground, there are a few things you’ll want to be aware of going into it. The things you’re looking for are damaged shingles, flashing or gutters. You’ll also want to check for leaks (this can be done simultaneously while checking your insulation in your attic). Remember, do not get on your roof. If you think there could be something wrong, trust your instincts and call your local roofing contractor to come out and take a look.
