DIY Roofing Hazards

DIY Roofing Problems

It may be incredibly tempting to try and replace the roof over your home by yourself. After all, it’s just a roof, how hard can it be? You may have even heard of “a friend of a friend” who replaced their roof and saved thousands! Of course, these stories could have substance. However, most of the time, the costs outweigh the benefits when it comes to DIY roofing replacement.

Installing a roof that isn’t watertight

Picture this, you’ve just spent hours, likely multiple days stripping and re-roofing your home. You’re totally exhausted but feel at ease because the project is completed. Until the next rainstorm comes and water seeps through the roof and ceilings of your home. Then you feel panic and frustration, you followed the YouTube videos closely and consulted the sales representatives at your local home improvement store.

Many people believe that roofing is simple and if the shingles and other necessary items are on the roof, then it will be effective. This is not the case, there are thousands of roofing professionals across the United States for a reason. Proper installation is just as important as the roofing materials themselves. Roofing your home yourself, then calling a professional to replace what you already did will cost thousands more than having a professional install your roof from the beginning.

Injury

This is undoubtedly the biggest risk you take when climbing on your roof. There are many ways you could injure yourself while performing a roof repair or replacement, including:

  • Falling off your roof
  • Improperly using tools
  • Standing on weak points or other areas of your roof
  • Losing balance on the ladder
  • Not having proper grip on your shoes
  • Power line accidents

There are also certain laws and regulations roofers must follow while up on a roof. Without proper training you won’t have the knowledge to follow these.

Expenses

Many people believe they will save money by installing their roof themselves. However, they often incur additional expenses due to purchasing replacement materials for their mistakes and costly tools.

Between the time it takes, monetary investment, and injury risk, it isn’t worth it for homeowners to perform their own roof replacement rather than DIY roofing. Hiring a professional to do this job properly is the most effective way to replace your roof. If you have any questions or would like a quote to replace your roof, contact Guaranteed Roofing.
